Two races (aside from those of the East Indies) are recognized: Pernis ptilorhyncus orientalis in Japan and northeastern Asia, where it is highly migratory, and, separated from it by a gap, P. p. ruficollis of India, Ceylon, and the Indo-Chinese Peninsula, which is somewhat migratory"--P. 10.
