In the preface to Cassin's volume, the author says: In 1851 I was engaged ... to superintend the preparation of plates for the Atlas of Mammalogy and orthnithology ... and subsequently to prepare the present volume ... From the notes and observations of Mr. Titian R. Peale ... much ... has been derived ... Many of the drawings [for the plates of the Atlas] were made by Mr. Peale.
