Title devised by cataloguer.
Eighteen-century Latin-German dictionary of anatomical and medicinal terms in natural science.
Contents includes notes on chemistry; a medical recipe (page 25); a listing (page 27) of apothecaries' system of weights (grain, scruple, drachm, ounce, pound) in use before metrication; an alphabetical Latin-German dictionary of various anatomical terms and afflictions; Latin-German terms scattered under subheadings for parts of the body with more in depth definitions; alphabetical index (probably in a later hand) of Latin terms and German equivalents in natural science, which includes, herbs, spices and plants. Page 173 includes chart of apothecaries' system of weights. Colophon, denotes work completed, and reads, "Finis et soli Deo Gloria Omnia cum Deo et nihil fine es Omnia cum spiritu et nihil fine fructu."
Undated. Metric system replacing the apothecaries system of weights was developed in France in 1790's and became gradually adopted in Europe thereafter.
Heavily but neatly inscribed in at least two hands, suggesting a passage of time. Constructed in alphabetical order, and note form. Terms sometimes appear out of alphabetical order, due to progression of thoughts. Handbook would have been very useful for a quick word-check or for a more in depth description of terms.
Pagination numbered in manuscript ink: 29 pages, 116 unnumbered pages, pages 145-167, 2 unnumbered pages, pages 168-179, 2 unnumbered pages, pages 180-183, that is 189, 1 unnumbered page. Pages 146-169, 172-183, 186-189, wrongly numbered as 145-167, 168-179, 180-183 respectively.
