The octavo series of abstracts first published in 1832 form a sequence to the quarto Abridgements of the Philosophical transactions which covered the period 1665-1800. The first two volumes, 1800-30, contain a collection of abstracts of papers arranged in the order of the full papers in the Philosophical transactions; in the third volume a new order was adopted, the abstracts being arranged under the meetings, each meeting being headed by a brief account of the business which preceded the reading of the papers: v. 3-6 were issued in numbers (no. 1-102) each having the caption "Proceedings".
