Abstract

Experiments designed to test the effect of the eye-color mutant, car, on mating competitiveness indicated car does not significantly influence mating ability. Estimates of survivorship to pupae indicate that car might be an overdominant gene. However, the genetic history of the stocks used indicated that a general hybrid vigor was expected and might have produced the overdominance detected.
