A genetic-sexing strain of Culex tarsalis that links malathion resistance and male-determining genes via a translocation was established. In this strain females are susceptible to malathion and males are malathion resistant. A discriminating dose of 0.1 ppm malathion applied to first as well as fourth instars eliminates over 99 percent of the females while permitting the males to survive.
