French and German. Printed in double columns. The French text appears in Roman in the 2 outer columns of each opening, the German text in Italic in the 2 middle columns.

First published in 1623 by Pluvinel's friend J.D. Peyrol under the title Maneige royale, with incomplete French text and 60 prints by Crispijn de Passe the younger. The ed. of 1625 by René de Menou contained the complete French text and added ports. of Menou and Roger de Bellegarde. Cf. Brunet, Graesse, Pluvinel (1974).

Imprint on added engraved t.p.: Imprimé à Paris au depends de Crispin de Pas le vieux à Vtrecht.

Includes 57 double plates illustrating horsemanship, mostly folded once vertically and hinged at the fold. Plates 9, 10, 23 and 27 each appear twice (as plates 31, 32, 29 and 30), and the plate following no. 15 is unnumbered. The engraved t.p. is also a double sheet. Ports. are single sheets (Louis XIII, unsigned, but dated 1624; Roger de Bellegarde, signed: Crisp. de Pas in. et fecit; Pluvinel, signed: Simon Passaeus sculpsit, AB, ao. 1628; René de Menou de Charnizay, signed: Crisp. de Pas fecit).
